Strictly Strings 2011

On Saturday, November 5, 2011, seven orchestra member from Madison participated in Strictly Strings. Over 200 seventh and eighth graders from North Platte, Kearney, Grand Island, Hastings and Custer County joined together to play under the baton of Dr. David Littrell. Dr. Littrell is a University Distinguished Professor of Music at Kansas State University where he conducts the University Orchestra and teaches cello.

Representing Madison were: Violinists Tabetha Sprunk, Gracey Adkisson, Hannah Barnhill, Lebraya Green; Bassists Sidney Fries, Dustin Wonch and Jakob Ochsner.

They performed in a 3 p.m. concert at Walnut Middle School in Grand Island. Strictly Strings is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2011.

2011 Singing Youth of Nebraska

On Saturday, January 29, 2011, five Madison students participated in Singing Youth of Nebraska, a choir festival sponsored by the Nebraska Choral Directors Association and held at North Platte High School.

Madison was represented by Sopranos Kalynn S., Kinzi R., Tiffany S.; Alto Sarah S., and Tenor Charles R.

Teresa Rotert from Hershey Public Schools was the clinician.

Orchestra Students Travel to Strictly Strings

On Saturday, November 6, 2010, six Madison orchestra students traveled to Grand Island for Strictly Strings. Here, the entire 200+ member orchestra is pictured rehearsing with Dr. Barry Ford from UNO.

Eight Madison Orchestra students will travel to Grand Island’s Walnut Middle School to participate in Strictly Strings, a one-day orchestra festival sponsored by the Nebraska Unit of American String Teachers Association.

Students participating are:

Eighth graders Kalynn Stoner, Mariah Wilcox, Michael Long and Christian Wood.

Seventh graders Tabetha Sprunk, Tiffany Sauls, Sidney Fries and Dustin Wonch.

They will join approximately 200 other 7th and 8th grade orchestra students from across Nebraska who will be under the direction of Dr. Barry Ford from the University of Nebraska-Omaha Orchestra.

Students will perform “Sword Dance” by Thoinot Arbeau, arranged by Bob Phillips, “Hey Fiddle Fiddle!” by Brian Balmages, “Spirit of ’76″ by Richard Meyer, “Rondo Presto” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, arr. Andrew Dabczynski, and “Bees Are Boppin’” by Thom Sharp.
